How We Work

The methodology behind each engagement

Every Sondira engagement begins with the space as it actually is — not as the original floor plan suggests it should be. Site conditions in KL apartments and terrace houses frequently differ from drawings: walls that are not square, columns that intrude, floor levels that vary slightly between rooms. Documenting what is there, before designing anything, is the first step.

From that starting point, the brief, sketch, or documentation set is prepared with the cabinet maker in mind. The question guiding every decision is whether the person building the piece can take the drawings and begin work without needing to come back with clarifying questions. That standard is higher than it sounds; most residential joinery documentation in Malaysia does not meet it.

1

Site visit and measurement

All projects begin with a visit to the actual space. Dimensions are recorded on site.

2

Brief and material discussion

Timber species, board materials, finishes, and hardware are considered together.

3

Drawings and documentation

Sketches or full shop drawings prepared to a fabrication-ready standard.

4

Handover or coordination

Documentation delivered to client or handed directly to chosen cabinet maker.

01

Joinery Brief & Detail Sketch

RM 420

An engagement focused on one specific piece of joinery — a wardrobe, a kitchen island, a study unit. The service begins with an on-site visit and proceeds to a working sketch and a short written note on materials and finishes. The sketch is drawn to a standard that a cabinet maker can work from; the materials note gives enough context to have a useful conversation about execution.

Suited to owners who are adding to a home incrementally rather than replacing everything at once. This service makes it possible to treat one piece thoughtfully, at a fee that reflects the actual scope of the work.

  • One on-site visit included
  • Working sketch to fabrication standard
  • Short note on materials and finishes
  • One revision included
  • Delivered within 5–7 working days

Best suited for

Homeowners who want one well-considered piece — a wardrobe, study shelving, a kitchen island — without commissioning a full interior project. Works well for apartments in progress and homes being furnished over time.

Detailed joinery documentation package

Best suited for

Owners undertaking a full renovation or fitting out a new home who want all built-in joinery designed to the same standard and ready for a cabinet maker to price and execute. The package is designed to be handed to the maker you choose.

02

Detailed Joinery Documentation

RM 2,650

Full documentation for a set of bespoke joinery pieces — typically three to five built-ins across a home. The package includes shop drawings, materials specification, hardware schedules, and 3D views. It is prepared to the standard that a chosen cabinet maker can use to price the work and proceed to fabrication without needing to seek further clarification.

Hardware is specified by manufacturer and model number. Section details show how pieces meet each other and adjacent surfaces. 3D views provide spatial context alongside the flat drawing set.

  • 3–5 built-in joinery pieces
  • Shop drawings with section details
  • Full materials specification
  • Hardware schedules by model number
  • 3D reference views
  • Delivered within 2–3 weeks

03

Cabinet-Maker Liaison & Site Walks

RM 1,450

On-site coordination with the cabinet maker during fabrication and installation, with attention to fit, tolerances, and the way pieces interact with adjacent surfaces. This service does not require a prior documentation engagement — it can be taken on its own where drawings already exist and what is needed is a knowledgeable presence on site.

The engagement includes a final walk after installation and a written defects note where applicable. Suited to clients who want the joinery to settle in cleanly without their direct day-to-day involvement in the build.

  • Site visits during fabrication and install
  • Fit and tolerance checks
  • Surface and junction review
  • Final walk included
  • Written defects note where applicable

Best suited for

Clients who have engaged a cabinet maker directly or through their contractor and want an independent eye during fabrication and installation. Also works alongside the documentation package as a complete end-to-end engagement.

What applies across all services

Verified on-site dimensions

No documentation is based on floor plans alone. Every engagement starts with direct measurement.

Client data and project files kept securely

Project photographs, drawings, and correspondence are not shared beyond the engagement parties.

Written scope before work begins

Scope and fee are confirmed in writing before any site visits or drawing work begins.

One revision included as standard

Each documentation or sketch package includes one round of revisions. Additional revisions are available at a transparent rate.
